Here are a few suggestions. Mind you they are only suggestions.
1. Angled tree - angled pot 2. Rounded or curving tree - pot with a rounded appearance 3. Massive or delicate appearing tree - appropriately massive or delicate pot 4. Upright tree - rectangular pot 5. Slanting or windswept - oval pot 6. Broom style - oval or round pot 7. Cascade - round or square pot 8. Literati - oval or rounded pot. |

You can see some tips in an upcoming article of Bonsai Today, #88, which you can preview here:
http://www.bonsaitodayonline.com/btpreview.htm It's in the section Transplanting 3 & 4 about halfway down the page. Here's my take: Informal styles (slant, informal upright) - informal pots (round or oval, soft cornered rectangles) Formal styles - geometric hard edges with definite corners, feet Clump styles - lotus, slab, shallow squares Cascades - deeper squares, and rectangles - hex for semi cascades work well. Forests - shallow trays and slabs Literati - hand thrown, rough finished, shallow bowls Deciduous trees - glazed pots Flowering trees - brighter glazes Evergreen trees - unglazed, rough glazed or stone-finished pots Regards, Matt
