There's a article in Bonsai today issue #89 where they used pyrometric cones to determine temperature while firing bonsai pots. They took it up to cone 11, almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit then they introduced 6 lps of salt to further flux the ashes and glazes. Then they soaked or held the temp for another hour.
I have no direct experience with firing but I thought you might be interested in this article. Will |

You're probably right on both points; the notebook and the experimenting. I needed to "hear" that. ...[/QUOTE]There's a article in Bonsai today issue #89 where they used pyrometric cones to determine temperature while firing bonsai pots. The note book is paramount. I have all my notes for the past two years with endless glazes tests, firing cycles and experiments, some good some aweful.
Will Salt / Soda glazing is great, but you have to have a dedicated kiln to keep doing the same style of firing. You get some fantastic orange peel textures glazes though Regards Andy
