Finally Posting Some Pots

I've been a lurker for about a year.
I thought I'd finally try to post some pics of some of my pots.
Here's a pic of a custom cascade pot I made for a customer. He wanted a stylized waterfall cascading down it, so I carved one front and back. It was potted with a ponderosa pine.

Here's another shot of that pot next to my Jack Russell Terrier ( for Scale)
This shot shows the back of the pot. I call it the back because I knew the customers tree cascaded to the right, so I carved the waterfall to the right. When I make pots with carvings/impressions I use a reverse design on back in case it is ever used with a different tree. Carved design is a little different on both sides.

Glad to see you posting here Dale.

The pot you made is wonderful. When you say carved the waterfall, do you mean before or after firing the pot?

Hi Dale. Good of you to post here. I have admired your pots for years on the IBC. Post some of those rustic pots for all of us to see.

Read that question again and then rate the question..

5- Highly dumb
4- moderatly dumb
3- average dumb
2- maybe dumb
1- I have never made a pot so therefore would not know that it is easier to carve in wet clay then to carve in glass...

I am not expert on pottery. I have done a little bit of ceramics but just basic stuff. That is why I asked.

Dale, good to see ya here. This pot is beautiful. Although it is a large pot, until your friend was added for scale it was not so obvious. That I think is to your credit. I still find your work to be of the best I've seen. I guess now that I'm making my own pots, I get a better 'feel' for the difficulty in making pots for trees.

After carving how do you get the edges to not have fringes or is there a tool to use that does not cause the clay to leave fringes?

The design(s) were carved into the leather-hard clay.
As I recall, this was about 35 pounds of clay. The tough part isn't MAKING the pot it's drying and cleaning and bisqueing without cracking!
I tried to post my pic on the gallery where we could post our faces :>) but couldn't figure out how. Page is layed out different. I'll try a couple of shots of me with pots. These are pre-digital camera shots scanned so not too good.
First is a pot I won 2nd place ( Contemporary class) in the First NBF pot competition sponsored by the U.S. National Bonsai Arboretum in 2001. It's a 5-sided asymmetrical pot.

Here's a couple other 5-sided asymmetrical pots ( my logo pots) that were entered but never got past the first slide judging. :>)
I hope they don't look as out of focus as the other shot.
