A Few Carved & Impressed Pots

Here's a carved slab built rectangle from a few years ago. A lot of time involved!
BTW, the other side had a crab apple on it. No pic though.

Here's a shot of a pot from one of my club demo's after I finished it at home..
For a club demo I bring a finished pot for them to raffle, and then I make one similar to it for the clubs meeting. Takes about 2 1/2hours and they have a pot up front to raffle to recoup some cost.

Here's a carving idea I got while looking at expensive pots in Japan a couple years ago. I've been doing this a lot lately.

Beautiful pots Dale! I would like to learn how to make my own some day. When my kids were little, I was clay mom for five years and there was something special about holding and molding clay in your hands. It's about as good a feeling as shaping and caring for a tree! I never worked the kiln though. I also took a short class with wheel (I can see that it takes a lot of time to master this technique!) Are your round pots thrown? Does it take a lot of time and money to set up a potter's shed or clay studio w/ a small kiln to do your own? Do you sell your pots? Thanks Lesley
