Crater Pots
I've been looking for a crater type bonsai pot for several months now for my juniper (cascade style) but haven't had much luck. Since I do not plan to repot the tree until early next spring, it really hasn't been an issue.
I was hoping that anyone has any sources where I could find a crater-type pot. In going through the various forums on this site I have seen several, so I know that they're out there (the most recent being the "Getting A Tree Ready For A Show" thread at bonsaiTALK Forum > Best of bonsaiTALK > Tips & Misc >). Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! Brian |

Are you referring to the "egg shell" pots that mimic rock textures?
Any idea of the dimensions you are looking for? Jim Stone TX |

Yes. Actually, the "egg shell" form is a better way to describe it. It's a spherical shape with a hole in the top that falls away, towards the base on one side. Approimately 30 to 40 percent of the "egg" is open. The only forms I've been able to find can be described as a shallow round pot with "wings" (see the Sarah Rayner pottery website). I've also seen this "winged" form on the Tokoname site, but that's about it. I guess that's why I had such a positive reaction to the pot in the thread I listed above (by bonsaial) - it's the form I've been looking for.
As far as the size is concerned, I'm figuring somewhere between 8 to 11 inches in diameter, although the final size will undoubtedly be influenced by the shape. The exterior of the pot would be textured with minor indents and bumps and the color would be an earthen shade. Thanks for your help! Brian |

I've attached a photo of the pot I'm trying to find. Please note that this photo is from the earlier forum article by Bonsaial (give credit where credit is due of course). I guess the top of the pot is more than 40-percent open.
