Dale,

That blue glaze on the last mini-pot is beautiful.

Question: The 1st and 2nd round pots you posted in this thread - what size can you get down to and still retain the quality? I'm in the market for a 3" or under quality pot for a crab for next year.

Regards,

Fish.

Fish,
The size doesn't matter that much. But, it takes almost as long to make/finish a small pot as it does a big pot, so you'll find that if a 20 inch pot costs " X dollars" that a 2 inch pot will cost more than 1/10 of "X". This is one of the things that is tough to get across to non-potters. They are used to buying a cast 3" chinese pot for $2.50 or less. That is why the market is small for these pots. In fact, that's how I got started making pots, slab built mame. I SOON moved up! :>)
But, to answer your question better, I can make a nice small pot! :>)

Fish,
Here's a boxed set of mame pots I did for a friend ( I don't make a habit of doing this) . He especially requested the reverse drip style from a photo of a Japanese one he saw on a Japanese mini-bonsai site. I think this pot was about 3 1/2" across.

Thumbs up

Dale,

Don't worry - some time ago I began to figure out the economics of bonsai pottery having spoken to a few potters over here who have made some for me.

I'll PM you.

Regards,

Fish.

PS - Yes you can make 'em small, but keep the quality...!
