Sorry Al!
gotta go make some pinch pots.
Dale OUT!!....

Awesome! I love it..

BTW, your message was sort of cryptic, but if that pot is yours it is magnificent. Not representitive of the kind of pottery commonly seen on the West Coast.

Too bad you live so far away and are not into the shipping thing. You could double your income with some exposure on the left coast. I turned on my local bonsai nurseryman to Sara Rayner a few years back. She wholesaled some pots to him in the way of taking a minimum order to keep things honest. The exposure through him and Mendocino Coast Bonsai has done wonderful things as far as getting pots from the east, seen in the west.

Been doing bonsai for over twenty years, know lots of people all over the state and have yet to see nor hold a Dale Colchoy in my hands. I think its about time.

Help a brother out....

Al

Yes, that is mine. Saw some similar in Japan. At a show in the east here someone had the similar tile pot as a companion planting. Someone else asked if it was mine. I said no, but I could make those. I got orders for three at that show. One was 4 Art Skolnik (I think that's the one pictured) and another was a gift for Lynn Perry Alstadt.

SEVERAL years ago ( ten-ish maybe?) I talked with Sara about selling at Ca. state show and at that time she did poorly, as I recall, thinking the groups out there wanted more Japanese pots only. But I know since then she and Mike H. have done well there. Must be some more modern thinking.
I'd love to come to Ca. but don't have connections there plus it is so expensive to go , drive with lots and take a week rt, or ship lots less and try to make expenses. I have had some customers up Washington/Oregon way.

Tell me what you want. I'll make and send you some stuff this fall.
BTW, I have BOTH kilns cooling right now. You might like a couple things in them. I'll check tomorrow.
BTW2, I'm doing a pot making workshop at Bill Valavanis' symposium in a couple weeks. To bad you are not closer...you could make your own
I fire them.
Dale

Al,
I fired the other day, but before I did I quickly made up a few of those twisted kusamono tiles.
Here are the four I made. Pretty rustic clay w/ additives. One has a water area.
Photos don't do these justice Hard to realize the colors and shape.

These were electric fired, so next time I gas fire I'll try to have a couple others made from a different clay.

Looks like you have been burning the midnite oil, err..Electricity!

Looks like some interesting things coming out of this load. I love the finish on these, in fact one looks like a guy laying down on the side of one of the pots.
The one thing I notice about these is the addition of the end pieces within the tile. The tile seems so rustic, while the straight sides and applied look of the end pieces sort of spoil the texture? Maybe this disappears after planting somewhat and is not an issue.

Any pics of these planted up yet? Thanks for taking the time, Al

Hmmmm, the one you liked a few post ago was identically made

Sides aren't straight, they are round, then twisted in two dimensions
and, without the end pieces....the dirt runs out....
BTW, these were an extension of Japanese ones I'd seen, so, they HAD to be well designed....

No,Just unloaded yesterday. These are for sale, hopefully they'll be gone this weekend at symposium.

Thanks for taking the time, Al

Yea sure....just tryin' to "help a brother out"

Regards,
Dale

The most priceless statement in this whole thread.

Now that is humor!
