Hello Daiichi, Welcome to the best place you could be apart from your local bonsai group. Healthy looking Zelkova you have there pretty hardy also. I see you favour ne-agari (exposed root or octopus style). Now you have to decide how you can design the top part as far as branch placement goes. You may wish to go informal upright, perhaps slanting. My best advice would be to seek out someone with experience and learn from that person.
Kind Regards Ash

G'day Daiichi,

Now that's rather nice, first thing I'd do is gently pull some of those exposed roots nearer together, very carefully using light wire ties, as they look a tad too scraggly, let the top go for a while longer, but just concentrate on those roots, I think that it's growing in a handmade bunjin-gi pot, could you please post another pic showing the pot as well, for exposed root style trees, my personal pot selection is usually smooth, glazed and incurved, [I'm an exposed-root nutcase], green with envy....well almost.

Nigel

Nigel, I'll take a pic of the pot and post it.

Stonemonkey is the man though, he did a demo at our club and showed us how to make them.

Hey Bud',

With the tree in it PLEEZE, so's I gets an over-all view of tree and pot. BTW, it's quite easy to slowly reshape those exposed roots, and do remember that being so exposed, that eventually they take on the character of the tree's trunk's bark.

Pic can be as large as ya likes for my comp', if ya wanna send it privately.

Best....Nigel
