Yew Styling

Hello,

Here is a English Yew i created from raw stock in 2001-2002 i think. As you can see i've already been working on the branch layout and the lowest branch is quite thin so i'm letting it grow so it will thicken up! theres also a thin branch directly behind the thrunk which youi can see in the pic but i've drawn an arrow to show you. comments!?

Hi Graeme

Thats a nice start.

However,I think that if you want to keep the hight on that tree you will need to take it out of that pot and put it in to the ground or at least in to a large grow box for a few years. Yews are not the fastest growers and in that small pot it will take you an age to develop the branches and get any girth on the trunk.

I would also look at the roots that eminate some way up on the trunk. Try and uncross (is that a word?) the roots and either slant the tree slightly towards the left (burying the oposite side deeper or "tie" them close to the trunk in the hope that they merge in time. At the moment they look out of place.

Nice potential though, Keep us updated.

Mike

Hi,

Well i'm taking this tree to my local bonsai nursery tonight to get some feedback and possibily get a bigger growing pot. The roots are mostly on one side of the tree. So it may require a graft in time. Its been in the pot for 1 year now i think anyway. i think that with a bigger pot and tones of feed it might really thicken this year?

cheers

G
