Yard Sale find what do ya think? 3 Bonsai for Worth $40?

So I went to an ad in the Paper for Bonsai at a yard sale and walked away with these for $40. First photos are the day I bought them and the others are after a repot. They are all very root bound and needed to be in bonsai soil instead of the sand/potting mix. It was quite compacted.

Chinese Elm.

Hunnysickle. Ugly pot, I changed it.

A mullberry.

Here they are after a light root trim some wiring, pruning and a repot with good soil mix.

Any ideas, coaching and did I pay too much?
The Bonsai place where I live charges almost this much just for an Chinese Elm this size. I love the Mullberry! I probly would have payed $40 it alone.

Durring the repoting I discovered a nice bend in the trunk. So here is my first attempt at a cascade.

I'm a little worried about this guy. Leaved looking a little yellow. Too much water? More sun? It's in the the shade right now.

My fav, a mullberry with a nice thick trunk. An inch at the thickest.
I know it needs a new pot, but I like the rock and it is huge. Needs to be modified later. Maybe a trunck chop, but didn't think it would be wise in the 100+ heat. Maybe next spring? I think I'll take this to Al and let him tell me.

Thanks for your help.

i like the mulberry too! those leaves are beautiful! forget the trunk chop, I'd do rootwork on it first. good start on the elm too. it could be a great 'artsy' cascade, like a hanging bunjin. hope the honeysuckle comes through, dont know anything about them.

For $40 you did alright!. I like the way you're taking the Elm..it seems that cascade could be the way to go.
Your Mulberry looks very much like a Hawthorn.

Cheers,
Anthony

Mulberry trees make good large bonsai. I was thinking yours would look better with the top air layered off. Here's a virtual, but it really needs to be grown out taller for the leaves to be more in perspective. John Pitt pot.

Yeah, you did pretty good for $40.

Thanks for your work and vision for this one. I love it. I have also read that they can be airlayered quite easily. Maybe next spring? Is the best time for this tree?

I'll also search the web for info.

Someone else thought that, but there are no thorns or signs of thorns.

Thanks Jerry. I have ben reading like crazy, books and this forum. My main goal should be keeping them alive. As one on this forum said, a branch will grow back. We will see, Fresno has 110 days in the summer.

One more thing, the roots are a red color. Someone told me that Mullberries have red roots.
