Re: Windswept Shimpaku Juniper
I just have to say one thing to you Adam: "WOW", then I will agree with OMC, because, that straight line, doesn't help the tree much...
Al, I'm sorry, I think your virtual was defeated by the actual tree , but your virt was nice also...So, again Adam... WOW

Re: Windswept Shimpaku Juniper
Alright I know the picture shows that the lower branch appears to be straight. But the branch has two s curves in it. Mabey I should just make the branch bend up and down along with these s curves. What do you guys think.

The tree is a three-dimensional creation - so if you've got the movement in three dimensions (and it's apparent to a viewer looking at the front of the tree) don't worry about whether it looks straight in a two-dimensional photograph. So here's what I'd recommend: spend some time looking at bonsai books and magazines for inspiring examples, or better yet, spend some time looking at real trees (there are some great ones near you) and thinking about how they deal with branch movement and arrangement. See what styles and forms appeal to you - and see what stylistic touches you don't like. And then with your tree, do what you seems right to you. All the best, Old Mister

Re: Windswept Shimpaku Juniper
I have some bad news. When I first bought the tree, I noticed a broken branch(shown circled). Well my dumba$$ was not thinking and endend up wiring that broken branch and guess what it died.
I will post a picture of the tree with the branch missing tommorow. Your Sad Friend,Adam |

Sorry to here that a branch died but it will work out in the end. Let me guess, the middle one broke at that first bend? I like the way it's turning out Adam.

Adam,
These things happen. It's always super-frustrating when they do, but everyone breaks a branch now and then. It's like my friend said: Have you ever missed an airplane? No, I answered. Then you spend too much time waiting in airports. If you hadn't ever broken a branch, you'd not be shaping as fully as you could. Besides, Junipers bud back!!! All the best, Old Mister
