One suggestion which I have done with my olives and I believe you should do with yours is to bury the root base and plant in an open mix. This will develop that side roots and make the nebari much better. At the moment it looks like it is large buttress sitting above the soil level when the edge of those buttress should have roots all around it. I'll try and show you what I mean by this.

Carmi
The arrows show the two points that need to have roots to make the transition from the soil to the nebari more pleasing. I believe this needs to be buried to encourage these bulges to taper down into the soil with roots. Just my opinion.

Thank you David,
You are quite right, the tree has a very old and beautiful trunk, a great part of it is already buried.

Hi Carl,
On March I am planning a trip to Sidney thru the Far East- just joking- or maybe not?
As a matter of fact I did not plan for the tree anything yet, first of all I will take some better pictures and more form different angles.
I am definitely not planning to cut it as short as Treenut suggested, I think more in the lines of your virtual, but "the second trunk" is more like a first branch.

Sounds good. I look forward to seeing the further development of this piece of material!

(And hope you get to make that trip!)

With respect to design, I'm concerned about the location of that "first branch" if that is what you decide to use it for - it seems too low on the tree, almost coming out of the root base...my feeling is that it would be better used as a "daughter" trunk or removed entirely.

Best regards,
Carl
