Can you give a bit more info on what you have done to the tree. Has it been repotted? How long ago? Did you cut the folage instead of pinching? Please provide more details.

Thanks

it was repotted about 2-3 weeks ago from a mallsai medium, glued rock over normal soil. At the repotting time a trimmed the roots (not to much) and ahve been watering it about 1-2x a week and keeping it outside.

Well the glued on rocks are a worry because the water wasn't initially getting to the tree. This could of killed it before it got to your hands. Junipers can hold their green colour for a while before they brown off and die. Is there any new growth at all on the tree. You seem to be doing everything correct the real worry in the glued on roots. What is the weather like in your area at the moment?

Also can you show us the rest of the tree.

the weather has been unseasonabley mild here, 40-50's in the day and low to mid 30's at night until recently. Now its doen into the 20's at night and 30-40's in the day.

The mallsai was getting pleanty of water, because when i cut out the rocks the soild was very wet. Fortunatly they left a an area around the base of the tree trunk open to just soil so water did get into it. I have had the tree for about 6 months and it was mostly kept indoors untill recently.

When i repotted it, it did have new growth, quite a bit actualy.
this is when i trimmed it down but beofre the repot. i will get a current pic of the tree now and post it in a bit. thanks for your interest and help!

is it still browning , it might be that the light inside was not enough and it just needs a bit of real sun. they are outdoor trees so it could be that it just needs to be outside.hope it comes right i might not be right just a thought.

Buzz.

I also think light is playing an important role here or lack of..
How much of the old soil did you change from the rooots?
This tree has been in a state of shock since it left the nursery where it was growing. When pruning the roots it is good to prune some of the foliage which helps with the balance in the roots to foliage. Your tree seems a bit leggy but i wouldn't prune anymore than the tips of branches at this point. Maybe better to let it rest in its partially sunny spot out of the wind.

Whats the rest of the tree like? To me the rest of the tree is healthy from the photos provided so you haven't killed the tree. This browning seems to be well explained by BonsaiMon. Lack of light or a lot of stress on a root system that has gone through shock and the folage hasn't been reduced accordingly. But the good news seems to be the rest of the tree is healthy and you haven't killed.

yes, the rest of the tree is healthy(at this point). i am waiting to do any wire training till its recoverd enough from everything. should i trim the brown dying stuff off or trim some foilage back even more than i did initialy before the repot, or should i just leave it alone for now and let it get feeling better?
