What is this tree? Chinese something ;)
I bought this tree at the local bonsai emporium. I am not sure what it is. The card that was with it said that it needed low light or indirect sunlight. It was a Chinese something. I am sorry to be so vauge as I am still learning. It is very small, almost mame? About 6 inches tall.

Good guess but not a jade. I will take another pic and then let you see the difference.

If it looks like a boxwood, and walks like a boxwood, then maybe its a boxwood?

Definitely 100% boxwood with some sunbleached leaves. These plants actually do pretty well in partial sun here in CA.

Thanks for the info!
I thought that it might be a boxwood but not sure. How would the leaves have gotten sun bleached? It has been in moderate light indoors and not in the direct sun. Here in Colorado, all of my trees are indoors right now. Jess |

Hmm. maybe it was frost damage. Does that tan color come off the leaves or is it persistent? Boxwood will shed leaves but this looks a little unusual to me. Looks like you have some new growth coming out though. Regards, Matt

That is the color of the leaves. All of the leaves, including the new growth have that color. The growing information that was on the sign said that it liked moderate to low light and not heavy water, but that is the color that the leaves grow.

Re: What is this tree? Chinese something ;)
Sorry didn't have time to put into a pot. This is the route I would go for the boxwood. It looks like a Morris Midget, or Kingville variety. If it is they seem to grow year round. My box is pushing new growth now in Jan. I would pot it down though, the pot seems to heavy. Best Regards, Bonsaial
