Sigurd:

This one also needs time to adjust. Make sure that it's healthy before you work on it.

If you got it for a penny at a mall, it may need some recovery time. Just put it outside, in the shade, for a couple of weeks. (Your night temperatures do not go below 10 degrees Celsius, do they, now?)

I would also probably take that humidity tray away, there is a posibility of root rot with it there. - - - Water when the soil is dry (stick your finger in about an inch and feel for it.) Best of Luck!

Thanks guys!

I'll leave it for recovering now.. but why in the shade?
I can only imagine that the recovery will go slower..!?
btw. the tree is really healthy! The leafs are green and water full..
I selected it from a whole bunch at the mall.. and it was actually a nurcery, placed inside the mall.. I cant imagine they could sell this tree for this kind of money! ($12!!)

Sorry for my poor english

Advantage of Shade in Recovery

Siguid,

Bart suggested shade, since the tree will stand a better chance of recovery with good light, not direct Sunlight. This would put extra stress on the tree, since it will transpire more water and put a greater demand on the roots to supply fresh nutrients and water. If the roots are weak, they can not supply this demand and the tree will deteriorate and even die.

Keeping the tree in the shade allows the roots to establish and start growing, without this drain on them. In 2 to 3 weeks, start introducing it to more sun but keep the soil "just moist". Providing there is fresh growth over the same period, it will start "drinking" more as the canopy fills out.

I would suggest leaving any major work till next Sping. Just let it grow for now, since this will also help strengthen the roots.

Post an update in a months time and we will try to suggest a plan

Good luck,
Ian.

Ian Homer,

Thank you so much for your personal advices!!
I have never been thinking about it this way.. I have always been thinking of direct sunlight as 'life giving'
Would you say that it should be kept outside? I have a shed I think might be suitable.. But then lack of light will be.. (yoda language.. lol)

take care,

Sigurd
