HI All

Thanks for the feedback, we can sometimes get a bit stale without outside points of veiw.
I will post other photos of the trees nebari later sometime, as for the trees age I was told the hedge was around 30 years in the ground & I have had it for 8 years so all up 38 years or so.

Cheers

my thought on the jin is i like it, what it does need is to be shorter not as pointy.

the texture and grain is good but the white limed look spoils it. i would rather see it burnt and brushed then a diluted mix of lime and then to weather for at least a good 6 months.

has the potential to be very nice dead wood. francois jeker is a master of dead wood, his book is worth getting your hands on it if you can. bonsia today and focus have had articles on his dw.

What did you use to carve the jin and shari? It looks very detailed and well thought out. Looks great!

Great job! This is a beautiful tree that will only get better.
That said the only problem I see is that the deawood as it is (with the downward pointing bit, and the almost horizontal bit) looks to me as if it represents an explosion frozen in time. Try tossing a towel over those two pieces and see what you think.
P.S. if it's not too much trouble get a shot with those covered and post it. Thanks.

The tree has a 2D feel to it, with some more depth from back branching this tree will rule. Great job with it so far, I like it.

I call that a successful rescue operation!

I think you're doing a fine job. That said, and not to detract from an overall good tree, I too think the jin is a bit overpowering. It also tends to make the tree look as if it's trying to go in 2 directions at once. However, I strongly suspect that once the living part gets bigger and fills out more, the "overpowering" part will be corrected without you doing anything else, and the directional problem may also disappear as well.

Keep up the good work!

I think the line that divides the live and dead wood is not natural. That may be what is causing the deadwood to look overpowering.

The line should curve right to left, not abruptly angled.

Some tweaking should fix that.
