Weigela Pot?
Setting aside the size of the pot in relation to the tree, does anyone think the pattern on this pot is just too busy?
The pot is an old chinese pot, which I suspect was not originally intended as a bonsai planter. That said, I like the pot. The tree is a Weigela ("Red Prince"). Blooms are red. Medium to light colored green leaves. It gets real bushy, which is good because I intend to let it get a good deal thicker and taller. |

For bonsai.... of course. But for penjing... not particularly. And in truth the tree currently evokes the feeling of a penjing more than a bonsai in any case (for me at any rate).
You of course said the only thing that really matters..... you like it. For that matter... with the way you set up the photo... I like it. ![]() Looks like a very promising tree... have fun with it! Yours most kindly, Victrinia |

Thanks, I really hadn't thought about it in terms of penjing versus bonsai. I had intended to wire everythiing to and now I'm not sure I will. At least not so much.
I braided the descending trunk as well. Somewhat taboo, but it seems to work as well. |

Less formalized wiring would suit it, if you want to carry on with the penjing flavor. People often think that penjing=sloppy... but truly there is such a lovely and subtle artistry to pulling off a good penjing. And this tree has the makings of it to my mind.
I'll look forward to watching what you do with it. ![]() Kindest regards, Victrinia |

well since you are asking for personal opinion.
i actually dont really liek the pot. i know these taller pots suit, or at least was always used for cascading styles but the paterns on this pot dont look Oriental/asian looking reminds me of traditional Slavic or even russian paintings. id say a nice brown pot in the oriental shape would suit it alot better than this one |
