Virtuals Please, 5 Year Old Pine

Greetings,

I got here some pictures of my fiancee's father's pine tree. It is 5 years old, he has been doing bonsai for 5 years. This is his first tree.

Have a look, he is korean so he can not register and participate himself, but he wants to participate through me.

If you could provide any virtuals, that would be fantastic. His eyes light up when I showed him the one that marcus did for me.

This tree only needed some minor changes I felt. I have tilted it to the right by about 25deg and just filled in some folage. It is difficult to see the branching but I believe some thinning out might be required. I have changed the pot as well.

Wow, that's great David, thanks. That really helps.

In your virtual, the apex is over the base, but as the tree stands now, its a bit over to the left.

Is it common bonsai technique to bring the apex over the base if it is *almost* there?

Do you all recommend bringing the apex of this tree over the base? I think it looks a lot better.

Time to get to work..

Thanks again!

The apex is always over the base in a formal or informal upright.

If it is not, you have a non-upright form -- like a slant style, windswept or a cascade of some sort. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

Regards,

Matt
