That's a great looking canvas to work with, so many options. Not knowing how to do
the virtuals yet I will be watching this post with interest.
Good luck, Spatch.

I don't know how to do virtuals, Jarry, but I have several Tridents and APs in a similar training dilemma. I am going to take all of the branches off that are very large at all, and begin using the very small ones (and new ones that pop up). Cutting them right down to only a couple of internodes, and training them with a little wire. I am only going to work on the first few inches of the branches each year, letting the rest of the growth go wild so as to attain branch diameter. Then that growth will be cut back, and the next phase of each branch started. Remember... coarse to fine, coarse to fine. Taper in branches is achieved just like taper in the trunk, by growth and pruning. Lower branches need to be heavier, so keep the top well restrained with pinching.

Nice trunk!!!

Hi Jarryd
I personally can only see a traditionally styled tree here. The main reason is that it has a beautiful tapering trunk which would only be enhanced by a traditional look. I would go for a rounded canopy. The below virtual is a rough idea of what I would like to see.

good luck and show us what you decide.

David
