A Very Miniature Tree

I wanted to share with everyone what I have been into lately...Very small miniature trees.

This is an Artemisia Southernwood tree I got free from a local nursery. I was going to purchase it because I saw the potiental it had. It had alot of dead branches but the main trunk was alive and I loved the movement. They said it looked really bad and that I could just have it. No argument there! I removed the dead branches and wired the remaining two. I found a small slab of rock and carved out a large area with my Dremel where the tree will be planted. This is the after pic. It is budding all over and does not like to be outside. It loses it's moisture too fast and begins to wilt. I am now keeping on a window sill where it is now happy.

The only thing that is difficult is how much I have to mist it...about 5 times a day to keep the moss happy. I think it is worth it though. I know I'm happy!

I like it, stretch of the imagination. Now, if only the watering holds out...

Bravo! I love seeing how miniature one can go with trees...you've done a wonderful job here. I'd like to see some of your other tiny creations!

Here's one I did a number of years ago with a dwarf cryptomeria and a little sliver of rock. The whole thing is barely 3" high. Sadly, someone stole it shortly after this picture was taken.

Best regards,
Carl

Thanks! I love taking my miniatures to work for a day. It got almost everyone at the office into bonsai. I will take some pics of my others as soon as I get a break from my little girl.

By the way Carl, on a different subject, how is your little bundle of joy doing? I remembered because we became new dads around the same time. My daughter Megan was born on March 11 this year. The tree I was working on the day my wife went into labor will be hers when she grows up.

Gilbert,

That's right! I remember that as well. Cool that the babies were so close together. Megan is very cute.

Thanks for asking about Helen; she is doing wonderfully, and is already getting into ikebana.

Well, sort of.

Better keep your eye on this miniature, Carl, or someone is liable to steal her right out from under you, too!

Regards,

Matt
