Hawthorn found while trimming fencline hedge of park.At the end of summer (07) we were tidying up a very long privet hedge and removing any none privet growth. Looking closely I found it was a twin trunk hawthorn.Chopped it and digged it out.
Now Feb 08 new growth getting ready to open looking good not sure what to do with it just yet will let all the shoots grow first. Last edited by aztree : 4-Feb-2008 at 04:13 PM. Reason: additional info |

Cuts heal very slowly so think jin, rooting will be somewhat slow(once there they do well), branches harden quickly so wire needs to be before the get inflexible, but watch out the new growth will pull off very easily. Keep an eye out for the orange rust spots and remove and burn those leaves as you find them.
I believe they will only give you one growth flush a year, so let the branches grow out then prune in the fall for budding for next year. Cold and drought tolerant. Nice find.
