Two tree's from me

Hello i thought that i would post some pictures of some of my tree's. I am in no way a photographer so please be kind.
the first is a English elm in a root over rock with a broom head it's been on the rock for about three years and it's slow take. it's only a six year old tree so it's a bit on the small side only 20cm from pot to top.

The second is a Silver Birch growing into a broom style this is about 10 year old only been in pots never planted out so am hoping for the best by date will be 2020 then it's a old a gnarly tree it sits about 30cm tall and the heads about the same

I would like to discus your root over rock stile tree.
The main question that I have is, why are you trying to get this tree to expand its roots in a bonsai pot. It has been my experiance that when you place a tree into a bonsai container you basicly freeze it in time. Yes the bark will age and become coarse in a bonsai pot but the roots and nebari can not increase in size suficently to cling to a stone. Common practise is to plant the tree out with the roots wraped over the stone and then pot it when the roots have suficently grasped the stone. What are your thoughts about this. What was your reasoning behind the technique that you are using.......rips

To rip the tree was in the pot as my child was doing a nature thing at school and they wanted them to bring things with roots to show so i thought what a good example. it's planted in a much larger and deeper pot know.

Cool The reason that I asked is because I grow a large quanity of bonsai and was interested in what your goals were for the root over rock tree.
One of the techniques that I use is to wrap the roots to the stone, using soft spacers to push the roots into all of the nooks and cranies and then using a pot that fits the stone that I am working with. Cut the bottom out of the pot and set it into one of my growing beds and plant the whole thing so that the roots can escape into the ground. this realy helps the roots to inarch andcling to the stone. This also gives more than enough growth to create the top of the tree. I dig the whole mess up every two years to prune roots and assure that when it is finished it will go directly into a bonsai containnner.........rips
