Two Drawings

Hi It's been a while since I posted some drawings in the forum so I figured it would be ok. These drawings were used during the bonsai show of the local club. Hope you like them.

regards, René

and a windswepth. It's very difficult to take decent pictures of drawings like this but with some fiddling in Paint Shop pro they're more or less ok.

Renee,

I love your style it is quiet stylised and unique, If I can offer a suggestion the Cascade(Which is fantastic), the rock is in desperate need of some depth. The rendering on the tree if is very well done and then the rock it clings to sits there so nothing. I think it should be kept minimilistic as it is, but some texture neds to be added to give it depth to compliment the tree, this would complete this drawing.

Fantastic to see your drawings back on the boards...

man, those are really good drawings. i already have your older drawings on my hdd and damn, these are better. I really like the texture on your trees. But what i find strange is that the foliage pads seem to resemble a lot. I think that a little diversity could be a good improvement. . Oh yeah, one question if you don't mind, where do you start drawing, do you start with the roots and work your way up or vice-versa Thanx

Wow, thank you all for the compliments....

Great Sage,

I guess you're right about the rock. I wanted to focus the attention on the tree and that's why I kept the rock so simple. I guess I overdid it... I usually keep the soil and so on as simple as possible but maybe I should put a little bit more detail in them. Thanks for the suggestion !

D3Rutat

I'm still experimenting with different ways of drawing foliage. I like this altough it's a lot of work making all those dots... :-D I will experiment with different shapes and see how that works.
These drawings are made with graphite pencils and ink pens. The ink makes the drawings much more powerful. That's probably the main difference between these ones and the ones on your harddisk. I feel flattered that you find my drawings good enough to save them.
Where do I start a drawing... pfew.. Well usually I have an idea in my head about a certain shape of tree. Then I sit in front of a blank paper with a pencil and start sketching away until I get something that I like. After that I position the foliage clouds and fiddle around until I feel the composition works. Then it's alot of striping and dotting with an ink pen. I use Rothring Rapidoliner inkpens of 0.25 and 0.35 mm. They have stopped producing these pens and I hate them for that. They work great. When the inking is done I take a B pencil and make texture on the branches and foliage. When that's finished I put a layer of fixative on the works to prevent it from staining and presto... I usually start with the bottom of the trunk. Then I work my way up to the branches, the tips of the branches and the foliage. I usually do the roots at the end. I don't know why but that feels best. I hope I have answered your question..

regards, René

Hi ian,

Thanks for the interest. No I don't have any prints. I haven't ever sold any of my drawings either.... I'd be willing to sell the originals though... They just lay around here anyway and I keep making new ones.... :-D
Here's a couple more..
