Trees Grown From Seed

I have one year in bonsai. I was wondering how a old bonsai grown from seed is. Do you have total control under a seed bonsai I mean a perfect branch positioning.

I would like to see photos from bonsais trained science seed.

This is an ash I started the last sumer from a seed. It will be a broom style.

Hi Alex,

In answer to your question, it takes quite awhile to develop a bonsai from a seed. Depending upon how big you want your tree(s) to be, 5 or 6 years to a couple of decades. Imho, this does not mean "Don't bother, you're wasting your time", however. Growing from seed is a lot of fun and very interesting. You will learn alot from it that is very applicable to caring for mature bonsai. It does mean that you may want to consider collecting or buying one or more more mature trees to get you going earlier with real bonsai.

Ash, because of its compound leaves and growth habit is not a species that is commonly used for bonsai. I have seen examples, however, and it is not impossible to work with. What you find appealing is more important than what anybody else thinks. I would suggest to you that it is not easy to train any deciduous tree into formal upright style. The tree you show appears suitable for infromal upright. Remember, formal upright trees must be absolutely straight. Like a conifer in a forest.

Good luck to you, Alex and hope you stay in touch.

Fred

Thanks

Well I chose ash because it´s easy to germinate and its a decidios tree. I´ll try so I think will post a pic of my mature bonsai in a couple of decades.

Im also starting some liquidamar, orange, apple and tabachines from seed.
