Tree ID
A friend of mine (considered a bonsai expert in Oz), asked whether anyone could ID this tree. He has taken a photo of the fruit only. Maybe this is native to Australia but I thought I'd give this a go here.
Here is his description: "it's about 2.5 metres tall and has many of these brown fruits growing on the tips of the branches. The fruit are like small brown apples." |

My wife, from Australia, swears it to be a crabapple.

I believe the plant to be a medlar - Mespilus germanica. It is in the same family as the crab apple ie Rosaceae. In the middle ages it was called the 'no arse' tree due to the fact that the bottom of the fruit is open. Hope this helps.
