Trash Or Potential?

I like a challenge.

Here is a rather large Scots pine I've got my mitts on and would welcome some suggestions for the future. It's currently 60 odd inches high.

To my eye, it lends itself to a *gulp*, naturalistic style. By naturalistic, I mean how an old Scots pine would look, growing in my part of the world - tall, elegant, lower branches shed over time, with a domed, spreading crown. Obviously, the completion of this image is some years away, however, it's time to wire and make some initial design decisions soon if I can.

Here's the tree:

How about some sort of swept literati style, that long branch on the right doesn't seem to fit, and the branches on the lower left look like fairy wands with those little tufts on the end ( don't you hate that about pines?)
I really can't see any upright style in this view of the tree.
Theres not enough going on down low.

Maybe a shot from the other side, so we can see where all those branches come from -- the ones that are obscured by the "fig leaf" bough?

Regards,

Matt

Fish, Its hard to tell what can be done to this tree from the two-dimensional pics provided, however I have generated a virtual based on eliminating the right hand branch of the trunk to shorten the overall profile. Also much ramification is indicated which may take several years to accomplish. This probably would be a mixed "natural-bunjin-slanting" hybrid style (mongrel style maybe ?). Mike

First, thanks to the people who have done virtuals from the awful photo I posted.

I have tried to be kinder to everyone. Again, forgive the quality, but I only have access to MS Paint.

This picture shows a slightly different front. I have removed all distracting branches. The red dots signify where the stronger and still flexible branches are located.

Could you make a credible bonsai using some or all of these branches? Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers,

Fish.

Hi Fish,

I don't know if the branches will permit this, but you could make a nice minimalistic bunjin. Long, slender and elegant.

regards, René

Thanks Rene.

I too think that bunjin is pretty much the only way to go here.

Regards,

Fish.
