Suiseki: Zeus’ Fury

Collected in Utah. I was inspired by the electricity that seems to bolt from the stone.

I live in Utah, do you mind sharing where you collected it? There aren't a lot (any that I know of, not that I'm too connected) collecters in the state. I've been looking around and haven't found anywhere that I feel is a really good place to collect. I've mostly been in the Provo River; it's closest. In fact, the only real bonsai shop closed down, so I'm left to collecting trees from the outdoors or nursery stock. Not that either are a bad source, but it just reflects the local demand. Happy hunting.

Hey Christian,

I actually live about 3 minutes from the mouth of Provo Canyon myself. This particular stone was collected in Rock Canyon of all places. There is AWESOME suiseki hunting up there--much better than the Provo River. And for a lot of the year the river bed is actually dry so it makes it easy to poke around.

I too feel your pain regarding places to find decent bonsai nearby. I have purchased nursery stock from Sun River Gardens in Orem a couple times and at certain times of the year they sell bonsai (Chinese Elm and Fukien Tea and the like).

Rock Canyon, wow. It's nice up there, I've climbed a lot up that canyon in the past. I'll have to go take a look sometime. Do you belong to a club around here? I've heard that one exists, but info seems to be scarce. Thanks for sharing the info. Good luck up there, and maybe I'll run into you.
