Styling an Olive Tree

I've had this Olive tree (Olea Europea) for a year... I haven't worked on it yet. What's the best time to work on olives... It doesn't need repotting now.. but it could diffenitly use some trimming.
Any suggestions or advice?

It looks as if the second pic is the back side. I like the first one as the front so far.
You'll be able to see it better after you clean up the extra foliage from branches.
Identify your main trunk line and start with choosing your branches. Post a pic after you have "cleaned" it up a bit. I like the trunk and nebari a lot so far but the moss should be removed to see what you have for above ground roots.

Pootsie... I'm planning on posting more photo, but the sides photo don't show much of the trunk line.

Hecktor.. the Trunk is the best part of the tree... and the trunk line is in good shape... do you think removing the branches at this time of year would be okay... I kinda like the moss.. but it is spreading up on the trunk.. I'll work on that...

Carmi where are you...

Bass, if I may, I'll offer this olive as a suggestion for future styling possibilities for your olive.
This one has been in training for over 10 years. The trunk was carved out to remove rotted wood. There may be no good reason to carve on your olive trunk.

I'm anxiouse to work on this tree now... I don't think it matters if I do work on it now... but it's diffinitly better to wait until late winter...

Chris... I believe who ever started training the tree, intended for informal upright.. but he let it grow untouched...
Broom style would work.. but I do have another olive that i'm training for broom style..

Hi Bass,
Your tree is a cultivated olive with big and long leaves, Mike's olive is a wild olive with small leaves, and you will never be able to flatten your olive's leaves like Mike's olive leaves. BTW as I wrote before, when Mike upload the same olive, I do not like the green stuff on the trunk(s).
I suggest that when winter ends you will clear the trunk line and upload more photos for styling suggestions.
Moshe.
