Spruce Collected from Timberline
Here are a few pictures of a Spruce I collected from around Timberline this past weekend. It was growing in a crack in a Granite rock. I retrieved a lot of roots, almost just lifted it out. It's planted in 70%-30% Turface to Pine Bark with some shredded bark on the top. It hasn't begun to push any new growth yet, but the buds are just beginning to swell. There is still 3+ feet of snow in some places. The area contain mainly Spruce and Bristlecone Pine. It was Beautiful. You could see your breath at times. I think this tree has some good potential. Any thoughts or comments?

The images you had placed in this thread added up to around 1500kb. I've replaced the images with text links for the benefit of those without high-speed connections. Please have a look here for further details. BTW - nice find!

Very nice, not sure about that pot or planting angle though.

I know. It was the only pot I had that would fit the tree, and an angle that would let the roots at the far end into the soil a few inches. Thanks for the replies!

I agree, give it the time to stabilize in the pot for now. |

Todd--what are the measurements of this tree? My guess is that it's around 12" tall by 20" wide...Trunk diameter of 2" to 3"? Great find; wish you luck with it
