some trees from Miniature Plant Kingdom

Well, this is a 2 sided story- one side is the great trees that I got at a great price...the other side is the sad downfall of a nursery, and possible closing, due to lack of business. Oh, it's not the easiest getting there, but it's worth the trip. I talked to Don for some time yesterday, making him late for the Sebastopol Fish Fry (sorry Don), but learned of his quandry about the place. Seems he's just not getting the business he needs to make operation worthwhile. He loves to grow, though...jeez, you can see it in his eyes. He has some hokkaido elms that many would kill for. New things, too. But alas, noone to buy them. So here's a shameless plug from me. Go on up, visit Don & Becky, and see the crabapples, if nothing else. Quite a sight. Btw, he has over 400,000 plants to look at, so allow yourself some time. www.miniplantkingdom.com is the website, and if you click on the contact us link, you'll get expert driving directions.

heres a couple pics of trees i got there, both $50 each. A dawn redwood, and a seiju elm. enjoy, and if you're anywhere near sebastopol, head on up. I'm gonna be going back. Also, an ilex serrata "Koshobai" on IT'S OWN ROOTS! NO GRAFT! You gotta see the place.

I believe he does a small bit over the internet, but when you have a significant sized lot, full of trees, internet packaging would require a shipping dept!

Scott, Thanks for the heads up on MPK. They were highly recommended to me by someone in N.Y. about a year ago. I checked out their website and never got around to ordering anything at the time. Guess I'd better get back over there. Funny you mention the Hokkaido elm as that is the tree I was referred there for. I'm going to order one in the 1 gallon pot size today if possible. I might add for anyone who likes azaleas they have quite a selection. Joanie, check out their website I can't say for sure but I believe everything on the site is available for shipping. Thanks again Scott, sorry to hear their closing. I'm sure it's a real loss for those of you within driving distance.

They have been around for many years. At least 15 that I know of. Pity to see them go.
Don and Becky were and are nice people

Folks,
They aren't closing yet!!! Just thinking that if things don't pick up, they're considering it. I'm just putting in a little kicker so those of you who were thinking of getting something (eg Sauce, with the hokkaido), will do so and keep them in business, and change their minds. That's all.

Thanks for straightening that out Scott. I tried to place an order on their website but it wouldn't let me so I have e-mailed them. I definitely want a Hokkaido or two and at least one of those 'morris midgets' too.

I used to sell their stuff years ago when selling more "starters". I remember they had THE NICEST pre-bonsai trees with lots of previous work in very small 4-6" nursery pots but great trunks, short. Real nIce. They often had a problem with "selling out" of something particularly "tastey".I particularlyremember crab apples!!
It's a toughmarket...hope they can rough it out.
Regards,
Dale

Dale,
They do have nice starter stuff, and he is shooting more towards shohin material. He's invited me up for some weekends, and will allow me to work for trees, and help develop stock. I'm chomping at the bit!

Ralph,
If you like that one, he has about 60 more just like it sitting on tables.
