Some ideas on A Japanese Box
I dug this out of a garden in 1999. The training over the past years was to develop the left side. The lower left branch was a throw back after digging it up. It has been suggested that this branch should be removed.Your opinions of this "stick in a pot" would be welcome.

I would cut that lower left branch back also, i think it would balance the tree better. However, i would do a virt on it first! If i was clever enough id do it for ya! Did i notice a touch of sarcasm with the "stick in a pot" comment. hehehe Good luck with it, it looks like the makings of a NICE "stick in a pot".

Gday Peter,
The best thing I could suggest would be to send it down here to Melbourne, much nicer down here ![]() In all seriousness, its a beautifull tree just as it is. Yes the left lower branch may be abit too low but what is bonsai afterall but a representation of trees in nature and this in my opinion is a beautifull example. Hope to see pics of it in the future. Ross. |

Tried to partially remove the left branch
I think it looks more balanced.
It probably still requires filling more the right side, but the tree looks good |

Peter,
I wouldn't remove that branch either. It's a very nice tree as is. Just keep doing what you're doing. |

I did a quick virt to see what it would look like without the lower left branch. I also took out the guy wires. I think it looks better without the branch, deffinitely more balanced. Just mho.
Regardless, it is a beautiful tree. Turtlebo |

I think that the low branch gives character.
![]() Ah, put it back into the ground for a few years and then talk to us. ![]() All kidding aside, it's a great tree, and you have a lot of talent. Joanie |

i say there's nothing like ya own stick! looks great without it, but joanie is right, with it, it is an individual. might need to prune it back a bit. good work pal.

Another vote for keep it. Actually, the branch that's currently bothering me is the second one on the left. All the other branches have nice movement, but that second one looks like it both lacks movement and clutters up the space. Of course, it might be the small pic fooling me. Can you get a closeup of what's going on in that area?
Regards. edit: added a quick virt to help explain what I mean. Last edited by MoSinister : 27-Apr-2007 at 07:52 PM. |
