Show Off You Site

Hi I haven’t been around in a few months, But how is everyone?

I've been busy doing non bonsai stuff. Some of which is web design.

I just got reading thread "not another bonsai site" and had an idea.

I am starting this thread for members to show off their site, no matter what it’s about.
(No porn or other offensive stuff please)

If you built a site or have a site post it here so others can see your work. Heck even if you want to post your favorite web site. Just give a description of what you are posting.

Here are mine;

http://thelibco.com/inspections.htm
http://thelibco.com/brandonsworld/index.htm

Sorry for posting a thread not directly related to bonsai.

And again please nothing offensive or racial

Hi Everyone,

It's fun to see all the personal sites.

Just a thought, though: good web design is not about using all the tricks and gadgets and plugins available, it's about good design, period. It's about usability. It's about having unique and valuable content, and then delivering that content in a clean and crisp fashion.

Perhaps it is little surprise that our resident defender of Art understands this better than most of the rest of us.

Whidn, Adam, Thomas, (and others who haven't posted yet to this particular thread)...

I really enjoy seeing these pages, and especially seeing your wonderful trees. Still, at the risk of causing offense let me be a little bit less subtle than I was in my previous post.

If you displayed your tree at a show, you'd be unlikely to surround it with a mess of pinwheels, bobblehead dolls, Energizer bunnies, and other distractions. So why, when you display your trees online, do you surround them with animated gifs and shockwave gizmos?

Hey Clay,
I didn't think there was anyone else who did both bonsai and model railroad. Here's the link to my model site.

Here's a link to our local bonsai shops website that I am working on, it's only a rough draft to see if they like the format, if it gets the ok I'll re do it and finish it off. I would appreciate any feedback though.

I can see how model railroading and bonsai would draw one to the other. Which direction did you go in? Most people I know started with railroading and then went to bonsai, but I've tempted on occasion to go in the other direction!

Just to clarify, for me it's not so much a load time issue (things tend to go fast over this DSL line) but a matter of visual elegence.

A tokonoma is a visually clean environment ideal for displaying bonsai. The resulting display is elegent, simple, beautiful, and works to the best advantage of the tree. On a bonsai web page, why not recreate a tokonoma - metaphorically speaking - with clean simple lines?

I think Andy's site illustrates the successful application of this approach.

Best regards,
Old Mister Crow

All,

Here's my old web site. Have not touched it in several years. Surprisingly, it's still up, more or less.

Turn your sound down low.

Links to my really old pages (i.e., JBP training) are dead as are some of the pics and blow-up of the thumbnails.

Interested in comments though as I'd like to put up another if I ever have the time...
