Shohin Yaupon Holly
This is a Yaupon Holly I actually began training in late February. I don't have a before photo but when I first bought it at Home Depot the tree height was about 14 inches tall. It cost $3.99. I cut it back hard to no foliage at all, root pruned it and potted in this pot. The tree is now 5 inches tall with a 2.5 inch nebari. The new growth just popped out fast and has really filled the tree. I don't plan to do much in way of wiring. I just plan to keep trimming the foliage to maintain it's shape. I love little trees like this.
Here's the front...

Gilbert,
Very nice work, as always. I like how you've found a powerful tree that nonetheless tapers nicely, all in such a tiny shohin package. The only thing I can think to suggest is that the tree seems to be planted a bit high and the soil level seems a bit low relative to the pot. I'd like to see the tree a few mm lower and I'd like to see the soil come to the rim of the pot. Cheers, Carl

Thanks for your comments! The soil looks a little low to allow room for moss I plan to apply soon. I'm really starting to like working on Yaupon Holly. They develop awesome surface roots with tapering trunks in no time.
Here another Yaupon I bought at the same time as this one but began training last month.

Thanks, Yes these are the Dwarf Yaupon Holly. It's hard to choose these when I go to nurseries because there are so many with great potential. Both of these were covered in white flowers when I bought them.
