Shohin Stand Jr.

Hello. I decided to make shohin stand for our club auction following the procedures and hints given here:
http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=846

This is how it came out. Just call me Bonsaial Jr.

Lessons learned:
1. Bonsaial is a great woodworker
2. I need more clamps
3. I need more feather boards
4. My router bits need sharpening
5. All-in-one stain/poly product (Minwax Polyshade) works okay but probably better using the "old" method of staining then finishing.

I also tried a new finishing technique of using a reddish base stain and a dark walnut over it to give it that antique look. I think it came out okay but it was rather difficult to control.

Anyways, the stand sold at the auction for $90, which was THE highest priced item at the auction among all nice pots and plant material. I was rather proud but also felt a bit guilty because I could've used better lumber (this was poplar) and could've done a better job.

Thanks.

I think it looks great, Geodude. I would have happily been in the bidding at that price.

Best regards,
Carl

I agree, thats a good job! I also would have been tempted to keep on bidding at that price.

Jonny.

The design is covered by copyright no. RU1-2/IAM. I have sent the bonsai copyright infringement goons to your address, and they will be picking up the stand for further inspection. On initial inspection it appears to be better then the prototype, and this could be grounds for further prosecution.

The whole matter could be erased from my memory banks by sending 25 .0...0. in a brow....

Nice work, Bonsai-al
