I also got a very deep red quince, but it doesn't have flowers right now. It's so dark and deep it's almost like a rose.
Then, the little elms. Remember, these are all meant to be shohin trees. The first little elm is a Hokkaido, with a paper towel behind it to show the movement of the trunk. Just starting to bud out. This tree, from nebari to where the branches begin to get thin, is about the span of my palm, or 4 inches, tall. Second, the larger Hokkaido. The trunk is very interesting and corky. Some of those larger branches will have to be re-grown. Third, a crabapple. This isn't a good picture, because the movement of the trunk is away from you. However, it's hard to take pictures of little guys that are in 4" pots and the interesting part is below the pot rim. So, trust me, there is movement and taper on it. My most expensive tree of the trip, at $39... but when it flowers... and in a few years.... ![]()

Finally, the workshop tree. It's a Chinese elm, about 12" tall or so. The apex arches toward the viewer.
Hope you enjoyed the show. Wish my photos were better, but it's a very busy weekend and I don't have time to reshoot. Joanie
