Shohin JBP repotted

I was over at Frak's (AKA OKBonsai0 o Friday to dig a few JBPs and to help he and a few of his friends repot trees some old and nice pines, ponderosa and JBP. I drove away from the deal with a number of freshly dug JBP's and this little shohin (<61/2" tall tree) JBP. On Saturday, I got up and repotted the tree as it hadn't been done for 2-3 years. it had great roots and buried under all of the akadama and haydite was a nice nebari. I have piled the soil over parts of the nebari, this will come off over the next few months to expose the nearly pot edge to pot edge nebari. A couple of years of needle and candle work and this will be a very nice little shohin pine. (Note to self; the soil that will be the final level is a little lower than the edge of the pot- it is piled up to protect some very nice and still sesitive roots.)

Thanks Frank,

John

Well I see you beat me to another one. Just when I was beginning to trust you. The only way to ease the pain is to go out and look at the Itoigawa I got from Don. My one and only victory.

John and Frank - Could either of you give a little history of this tree? Was it pot grown? Field grown? 5 yrs? 10? From what I think I know, this tree may have had at least one sacrifice branch/leader. Is there a scar? Back side? How do you have a tree that is nearly vertical and still have a sacrifice? Do you have a little 6" tree with a 10' sacrifice growing horizontally? Thanks, Vic N
