My apologies for the misunderstanding!
I might even try something like this with the lower branches - separating the two foliage pads but allowing them to cross the trunk. This isn't quite right as I've got it now, and I haven't filled out the upper foliage pads, to boot - but I hope you'll forgive me, as I've got to get back to work and stop screwing around with virtuals!

Congrats on a great first tree. Did you spray the foilage with a flourescent green...it looks almost too healthy to be real!!
 None of my Shimpakus look that healthy!What would I do to the tree? Nothing but let the foilage pads continue to develop. Maybe in a few years you might make some changes but I wouldn't mess with a fine tree until you have alot more experience. I'm looking forward to other trees you may post! Earl |

Many thanks to all who replied to my Shimpaku posting. It's nice to hear other opinions and suggestions. I look forward to posting some additional pics in the future. Most of my "subjects" are in the early stages of development and don't look like much right now, but at least I'm starting to see "future" trees in all that trimming and wiring. One of the hardest things for me as a newbie was visualizing the tree down the road. That seems to be getting easier as time goes on and it certainly is a real confidence booster. Thanks again for all your replies!!!!

Hi there
this is a lovely tree, well done. I think i see a jin hidden by the foliage of the second branch, a little pinching will show that off. maybe just a general pinching tidy up too, but other that that its a really lovely tree. One other thing, i dont know what you all think since noone has said anything, but id move the tree just a tiny bit more to the right in the pot and lower it just a bit so the roots dont look so arial. i have attempted all of this in the quick virtual below.
