Shimpaku Juniper

Just wanted to show you all my new shimpaku juniper. Just a starter but hopefully will grow into an astounding specimen in about 15 years or so. What you guys and girls think.

Re: Shimpaku Juniper

If you waited about 50 years it could look like this.

Same comment as for the Maple.

Al, mine all look like that in a year or two! Or at least they will when I start buying those $5000 specimen trees!

Re: Shimpaku Juniper

If you click ***GALLERY*** and type in SQUASHED JUNIPER in the gallery search you can see a couple examples of some amazing shohin that were created in less than a decade.

Basically the technique involves wiring out a long whip of shimpaku juniper and then crumple it into a tangled ball. As it grows an interesting shape is developed.

Regards,

Matt

Re: Shimpaku Juniper

Adam,
Shimpaku's are my favorite bonsai. It's to bad they take so long to grow into mature specimens, but like Matt said they do make nice shohin size bonsai.

Here's a nica example of a small one.

Fertilizer helps to push them.
