serissa?

I just acquired this serissa from our local garden center. I’m just curious of what kind of serissa is this for there are several different kind of species of serissa. If this can be a good bonsai potential. I will gladly take any kind of advices or opinions. I dunno how to post my pics. I just put my url here. Sorry for the hassle.

Looks like serrissa foetida variegata, variegated serrisa. Sould come up with single white flowers with a very slight mauve along the edge of the petals. If its the one i'm thinking of. Was it in flower or have you seen it in flower?

to wire or not to wire

I have'nt seen it flowered yet...I just got it last week...This is what I have in mind for my new plant. Can I wire them together..will the roots be disturbed if I put the trunks together? If I cut the top branches will it encourage the foliage to grow in what I want it to be?

My best suggestion to you is to let it grow for a while, and learn how to keep it alive and healthy. Serissas can be fussy, so messing with it too soon may be a problem. Give it a season or two, and see how it does in its new home.

If you want clump style, you can cut the branches and stick them in some fast draining media for it to root, that is a much better bet than wiring. Serisaa wood is very brittle and soft, so the branches will split and crack easily if over extended when wired. So if you want movement in the trunk you should be quick with the wiring

If cutting off the branches is a bit too much for you, you can also ground layer above the existance root structure, and then rearrange the branches after they root.

Since your tree is of the variegated type it isn't as fussy as the green Serissa.
Leaves on the variegated are slightly thicker than the green variety.
Would imagine your tree is only a couple of years old grown from cuttings.
When the time comes trim the tips of branches to promote back budding for more lower branching.
Bright light will encourage flowering.
