Saving the life of a pine

I tried to sell this tree at a club function for 60.00. Well it didn't sell so I decided that if I had to keep it, I would have to restyle it. Since the trunk was tall and thin and the branches were also thin , I decided that the only alternative would be to go for a bunjin-gi style tree. I pruned it and this is how it looked in the second pic.

Re: Saving the life of a pine

Well you can see that this is the ugliest pot I have erver owned. It is fairly valuable as it is a sand cast chnese pot done in raw sand color. The finish is very smooth. I will have to find the right tree to plant in it later. This is how the tree looked after I pruned it. This was in May, I've had the tree 5 years. This is the future back of the tree.

Re: Saving the life of a pine

OK,, well I got a little itchy and could not resist the temptation to repot this tree. it goes against my better judgement, but they say that Oct. is the next best month to repot. We will see. This is the final tree, and you can see that the top and hanging down branch have allready filled in a little. As soon as I pruned the tree hard in May, It burst forth with a profusion of buds. I selected the ones I wanted and pinched the rest. This is a hand made pot that I made myself. I also made the wooden stand. I guess I made the whole thing,, imagine that. Well the tree turned out better than I expected considering the material, just goes to show don't get rid of it till you looked at every possible option.

Re: Saving the life of a pine

BAD NEWS the little pine has started to convulse and may be struck with anthrax. I noticed that the needle tips have turned a little yellow, and it goes about 3/16" down the needle. I have been misting the tree with HB-101 and the yellowing seems to have stopped. I hope I have saved the tree. Repotting in Oct. could be a costly mistake. Anyone want to buy a handmade literati pot

How is your soil moisture? I have found that shallow trays can actually hang on to more water than some deeper pots!

Make sure you don't water it too frequently!
