Saturday Night Juniper Transform

Hello everyone! I've been away for a while due to my work overload but I'm starting to make time for myself and this forum again.

Well this is a tree I bought a few months ago and I finally decided to do some styling on it. From the time that I bought it, I've had a pretty good idea where I wanted to go with it. So Saturday night I stayed home and spent about a few hours working on some trees.

Here's a before shot from my kitchen table...

Here I've removed some branches and kept the ones I plan to wire.

I am still in the process of training my eyes for what makes good bonsai but this definately appeals to me. They only suggestion I have (based on gut feeling and a bit of reading) would be to shorten the right trunk a bit...maybe to around where the bend is and wire a new leader. I think this would give it more of the "father-and-son" feel that I have read about (Harry Tomlinson - "The Complete Book of Bonsai" pg. 49 - twin trunk style).

I think you have done an outstanding job!!!!!!!!

Regards,
Mark

What kind of juniper is this ?

Gilbert,

I like the way you have wired and arranged the branches.

But a couple of things to consider.....

Rotate the tree clockwise to show how the second trunk emerges. Is it a twin trunk or a two tree planting?

Wire the trunks to add more movement in the long straight sections to create incremental changes in direction as you go up the tree.

Best regards,

David

Very impressive, I was actually just staring at the material for a while, trying to "guess" what you were going to do with it, and the twin-trunk didn't even register. BUt, you've made a very convincing tree there. Good luck with it, and it keep us posted.

Nice wiring and the branches are arranged to make the best out of the foliage. However, the tree divides way above the ground and I would not consider this a twin trunk. Even if you shorten that first branch considerably as Cre8tive suggests, the fact that it obviously a branch rather than a second tree will always distract from the intended image.

I hope you dont mind me being honest here, but I have made the same mistake with a few trees and ended up spending a lot of time and effort to make something look right that never would. You are better off looking at the potential of the tree now and make the cruel cut, focusing your effort.

Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Mike

I have been playing around with my new photoshop software and thought I would do a virtual of your tree.

Mark
