Satsuki variety?

Hi everyone, I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I obtained this satsuki azalea last year. I didn't know what variety it was, just that it was a satsuki. Here are pictures of the flowers. I'm wondering if anyone recognizes them. I haven't been able to find a description that matches. The flowers are small for satsuki, 1.5'' to 1.75'' across. The color in the picture is very accurate to real life. A coral color with pink streaks in the throat. I like it even if I never know the variety, but it's nice to know. Thanks, Sandi

Osakazuki was one of the more popular pink Satsuki imports for decades. Cameras see super-saturated colors like these in totally different ways than each other and the eyes. Plus the color can shift a lot unless the color temperature reference is accurate, so it can be hard to be sure.

It could be Hyugano, Chinzan

Sandi, can you post a good close-up of the foliage? It looks almost like it could be 'Kazan'. I don't think that it is 'Chinsan' or 'Osakazuki'. I have both of those varieties. 'Chinsan' has a very small leaf which is also very slender, and a dark blotch in the throat. 'Osakazuki' is a larger flower, nearer 2½" across.

I looked at your pictures again after my reply. 'Kazan' (aka 'Rukizon') has a very unique leaf, small and shiny, nearly diamond shaped. Also the flowers have stamens?? (not sure if that's the proper term) with black ends. I don't believe any other satsuki have that same trait. That's my guess until I see a better foliage picture.
Take care,
zube

Thanks for the responses. I have Osakazuki and it has much pinker flowers and they are larger too. These flowers are deffinately coral. I took the picture and compared it to the actual flowers and it came very, very close. Here is a pic of the leaves and trunk. You can see my finger in the bottom left corner for size reference. It has small leaves.

Zube, I think you may be right! The leaves do have almost a diamond shape. I just went out to compare the leaves to my other satsuki's and they are definitely different. Thanks. Great. I think you may have got it.

Sandi, here's a picture of one of my 'Kazan'. I picked the best shot I had of the foliage. The lighter green leaves are the new growth. I suspect that this is what you may have.
Hope this helps,
zube

Yep! That's it. I've been looking through all my books on azaleas and finally found a picture of Kazan. It's exactly the same flower & color & leaf shape. Must be it. Thanks so much. Sandi

Definitely Kazan. I have a couple, the shiny tiny diamond-shaped leaves are the giveaway.
