Super! Nice choice on the pot as well. Not sure what you mean about the light flowering though. It shouldn't flower until the end of May/beginning of June.
Take care, zube

Thanks John for the support!
Zube... the tree only set a few flower buds. Everything else is pushing leaves. Which is fine with me... I'll be happy enough to just see what color(s) it is... I would have removed a lot of excess flower buds in anycase... I think it had a weak year last year due to the die back in different areas... but I think it'll be fine this year as it had a marvelous winter. (It overwintered for the most part in a bonsai nursery.) I'm so glad you liked the pot also... Kindest regards to you both, Victrinia |

Very beautiful tree I cant wait to see the flowers. I've never tried a satsuki before but I've always wanted to. I think next year or maybe even this year I may give one a try. Are they very hard to keep and train?

Miss Vic: The pot selection is really very nice - it has that Dan Robinson feel to it...For me, the azalaa should look good in the pot when it is not in flower as well - perhaps balanced is the better word - because the tree in flower is of course the priority - but it only lasts a month at best. Is this an old pot - it looks like it has a nice patina...
What is going on with the lower back branch - will it leaf out this year or will you remove the branch ? Good luck with this tree and it will be interesting to see where you take this one.... Tom |

OMG This tree is incredible and take into account the fact that its an azalea, makes it all the more awesome. I love this tree, the pot and the new planting angle. The composition is perfect.....perfect!!!

Vic,
I love the tree, but wish you had kept the length on the first main branch. It lent a much more dynamic feel to the tree in my opinion. I hope next year it rewards you with a fantastic profusion of blooms!

Tom... It should have a Dan Robinson feel... he sold it to me... And you must know him well to realize he adores cream colored cracked patina bonsai pots. Between that and the drippy green very antique pots he gets on his trips to China.... those two are his favorites. He'll pay homage to the unglazed pot where it's needed, but show him a crazed cream colored glaze... or the soft oxidation of the green antique pots... and he's in heaven. ![]() The one thing Daniel taught me early on was to never automatically remove potential jins.... keep the wood... and decide when it suits you. At this point the wood has been reduced further and the bark stripped, but I think I am going to let it dry out and reduce it further. At this point it's dominant and distracting in a way which does not jive with the rest of the tree. It won't go away entirely, unless I create a hollow... but it'll be greatly reduced to be more true to the image of a mature tree which lost a low branch long ago. Kindest regards, Victrinia |
