Rosemary as Bonsai

Rosemary is a plant often grown as a shrub in kitchen gardens to provide aromatic sprigs used as a spice in cooking.

It can also be used for bonsai. Here is a picture taken of a rosemary bonsai in the Midori Bonsai Club's 40th Annual show held this weekend.

What do you think of this plant as a bonsai? The branch tips certainly look longish to me, but maybe the owner was trying to encourage it to flower? How about the pot?

Re: Rosemary as Bonsai

The tree has as many things wrong with it as it has things great with it. I think it would be much better in a very low rustic bunjin pot. I think that the branch tips need fine detail wiring. But this is a very fast growing plant. Even if you wire the tips they would need pruning in about 5 to 6 days. The really great things were the sharied and jined trunk. the correct use of lime sulpher, and the live veins running up the trunk. Also the grooming of the trunk and moss was impeccable. I think I would like to virtual this tree. I will wait till I get my photo's back though, as I have a little different view of the tree in my shot.
