Robusta Juniper needs future pot

Hi, This is a robusta juniper, just styled and put into this large pot this spring. About 24 inches tall, with a 2 in. trunk and 3 in. base. The tree was in a good training pot with excellent free draining soil when I purchased it as a stock plant, so the root system was extremely fibrous. This tree will need a good pot in the future. Any suggestions ? I am also considering removing the top 6 inches of the tree to make a more compact bonsai, but I wuill lose what little taper I have. What would you do ? Thanks for your suggestions.

Hmmmm, for some reason my pictures are not resizing properly. Probably operator error.

Try again - usually this works so I don't have to test my pics.

Thanks, what do you think about shortening the tree by a bit? Do you think a round pot would be better ? Thanks for your suggestions.

I think it would look great in a drum pot and it looks a bit tall for the girth of the trunk. To me where the new leader starts should be the top...However, I really like the movement in the apex....So i would leave the heigth alone. Once all your foliage pads fill in, this is going to be magnificent!!!

Round drum, or better yet, a round informal bunjin-ish pot. Dale C. makes some terrific pots along these lines, with or without glaze.Check out the Bunjin pots at the bottom of the page:

I'd think something like the round rough pot with the glazing or firing treatment he's given it, or the deep oval below it would work very well with this tree.

Thanks for your suggestions rschafer and rockm, those are some exquisite pots. Can I ask, Why a bunjin-type pot ? Because of the informal style, or the height of the tree ? It seems that picking a pot is very difficult for me. I have a hard time "seeing" the tree in a new pot of any kind, maybe because I have looked at them (the trees) too long....
