Re: repotting time

And the last one. A landscape with a Juniperus Squamata under a "rock". These pictures don't do the trees justice. They look much better in real life (honest !! ) Hope I didn't overdo it. I have more pics to come....
Critics, virtuals, etc are welcome !

regards, René

Re: repotting time

Thanks for all the pics. No boredom at all. I would hate to vote for "best" because they all look great. I like the sparseness of most of them. Is this is preference or just the stage these particular bonsai are at?

I'm sure I'm running against the current popular styles of very heavy old collected trees that empasize alot of carved wood, but I find yours very pleasing. That's what is so great about bonsai. Like any art, we all have our likes and styles.

Hi

I like your trees too, especially that small ulmus parvifloria.
Its a great idea to use aquarium wood as a planting rock!
Dont know if its weatherproof though.

Re: repotting time

Earl,

The sparseness of the trees is just how they turned out. I have some carpinus Betulus in the ground for next year that have really thick trunks. My ultimate goal is to make bonsai from local trees like Oak, beech, birch etc. I hope they will have thick trunks. Right now the trees of Walter Pall that appear on the top of this forum are my examples of how I would like my trees to be. I absolutely love them !! I agree with you about the amount of jin and shari that are made in trees. I think it is fashionable to do it like that now. I'm not very fond of it either, but I guess that's just a matter of personal taste.

Zeb,

I don't know how the wood will hold after a year or so. We'll see. Like I said it's just an experiment. It looks nice though !

regards, René
