Could you use the hammer method to help reverse taper?

Depends. I;ve had a little Chat with Brent Walston some time ago and he told me that this method was use to fix minor imperfeections on a tree, but inverse taper is usually too large to fix withouut killing the whole tree.I don't know about the bark, on some species which grow bark fast it will be unoticable in about 2 yrs but on slower growers it might be a problem rather than a solution.

Cheers,
Razvan

Cool

hey Duartix; Your pendula Atlas Cedar is probably grafted onto Deodora Cedar rootstock as this is most common. Most of the grafts I have seen look just like yours when young but become less noticeable after a few years as the rootstock grows faster and develops rougher bark than the Atlas Cedar scion. If possible, plant in the ground as this speeds the growth. See the attached picture from the BonsaiTalk Galleries for a superb bonsai example of this variety.

The entire tree died from improper watering. The method I describe above came from Bob Pressler who has sucessfully propagated using this window method.

Good luck.
