Questionable azalea, but nevertheless...

I initially chose this azalea from the nursery rows at a local establishment because I was attracted by the movement in the lower part of the tree, in addition to the bulky trunk and nice surface rootage, in my opinion. Thiese attributes are what I normally look for when cavassing nurseries. However, there were a few negatives that I realized after that - namely that the cultivar is larger-leaved and deciduous, and not known for very good ramification (at least not that I have observed in landscape specimens over the years). Also, I am not sure of its bud back potential, although I think that it should be pretty good, considering the species.

Bottom line is that I obviously chose to work with it anyway - nothing ventured, nothing gained - if it does survive, it will be nice to document its subsequent growth - it is a Gibraltar hybrid.

Regards,
Tom Simonyi

Thank you all for your input and virtuals....actually I was thinking of leaving it the way it is until budding begins and progresses, and then proceeding from there. I kind of like the look of the primary branching at this point.

Tom

This is how the tree looks at the present time. For the time being, I have decided on a triple-trunk design...
