Prunus Mume. New Aquisition

I have just got this Prunus mume prebonsai from a nursery for 70 dollars.
It is already in bloom. In the following picture you can see that the main brach to the left is dead, or at least it seems dead. I plan to do some dead wood work on it. Any sudjestions, on the tree and my plans.

Wow!

Now that is a nice piece of material! I really wish I could find a source of prunus mume specimens like that one. I think with the deadwood carving that you propose and a couple of years of shaping, you'll have a really gorgeous tree.

I probably like the front shown the second picture the best (maybe rotated just a fraction more to the left, so that the deadwood is not so much front and center). But it's darn near impossible to pick a front for a tree from just a set of two-dimensional photographs, so take my comment with the requisite grain of salt.

Best regards,
OMC

Very nice!

Very nice - but I am a sucker for anything that blooms. Could you tell us the height and caliper of this tree?

Nice tree.

I have one concern though and it is the very thick living branch about half way up the tree. This is the same size as the top half of the trunk. You have to think about what you intend to do with this branch. Its a tough call what you need to do with this branch without seeing the tree in person.

Choumi, good find. I have the same concern as David, though. If I had to choose, I would pick the third photo as the front, the thick bit is in behind some other branches then. That would mean that the front would lean heavily towards the viewer, though. But, then there is some interest in the lower trunk, with the dead branch to the left. If you plan to carve, would you consider carving the thick branch down to be a bit thinner, and try to integrate the carving in with the rest of the carving you plan to do? Just a thought.

Regards,

TB

Thank you all now I am more excited with the tree than before. I think I made a good choice with this one.
The dimensions of the tree are 5,5 cm diameter at trunk base and 22 cm high.

As of the big branch in the middle I am not sure at this moment what to do with it, so I will leave it here for the moment. There is always time to cut.

I will repot it as soon flowers fall and place in a round pot for the moment so I can find a front that pleases me.
I will keep you all informed.

thanks agin
