Procumbens Future
hello , here is one plant i really don't know what to do with.It has none of the features a good bonsai would want. the trunk has just a little movement at the base , and does not get sharp at the apex. bigh branches are at the top , while small branches are at the base.without apparently any reason I anyway find it beautiful to stare at , and feel the harmony of bonsai in it.so i'm about to take the decision to plant it in free soil in my garden and see it bicome a big bush or somekind of tree, because i really couldn't take a decision on how to work it out as a bonsai. The plant is a Juniper Procumbens , wich is suposed to be growing towards the ground , but all I saw in these years is the plant getting taller. I'll post some pics of the tree with the trunk and main branches highlighted , so maybe some of you can give me good advice. I don't want to make the mistake of wanting at all costs to make a bonsai out of a small tree...some plants are just not born for it.... help me!!

How about laying this down on its right side and starting a raft style tree with the five "trunks" on the left side? You might be able to lay it down on the front or back side and use more "trunks."
Regards, Matt

If you look at your yellow lines you could make out a nice literati by going up the trunk and coming down the left side branch. Jin everything else and angle the trunk more to the right. Then its just a matter of wiring.
Thats one way. Lui |

Hi Zabo
There seems to be a lot of the original potting soil around the base of the trunk. I would dig down a bit and see where your major roots are. This may give you an extra couple of inches of trunk and you could work with the first branch on the left as a new apex. The rest of the tree could be layered as suggested and trained to represent an image similar to that which Lui put forward. Whatever you do dont rush, keep looking and the tree will give you all the answers you need. Have fun Mike
